BELIEVING
An amazing word and even more, an amazing deed, is believing, especially in yourself. The things we CAN do, even during the most difficult circumstances, like the suffering during hard times, be they wars, floods, fires or even medical issues.
Then we have the more positive times, when we may want to develop an invention, setting up a business or even writing a book, painting a picture etc., In all these, we have to believe that we are going to succeed.
Many times, during the setting up periods of a venture, we may be knocked down and feel that we should not go ahead with the idea, but BELIEVING in yourself, together with the idea, they are always worth fighting for and staying with the thought of success.
Watching a TV show called Karate Kid, the other day, where an American single mum and her son Deh went to live in China for financial reasons, the thought of believing came to mind. At first Deh did not like being there, as he found out he was targeted by a group of 4 young Chinese bullies, who made his life a real misery, but cutting a long story short, Deh came across a man, who was the maintenance man for the building they were living in. His name was Mr. Han, who was a karate expert and taught Deh to fight, a bit like Mr. Miyagi (the actor Pat Morita) in the other Karate Kid movies. There is more to the story, but in the end, Deh won the Karate competition against the number one bully, after being down and almost out, against some nasty opposition, because he believed.
Mr. Han taught Deh that being down, was something you just do not accept and that you must get up, to realise your dreams: Your self-belief. That makes you special and very powerful.
The mind is stronger than the body.
(Samson and goliath’s story in the bible.)
Bullying is not new and is happening in places everywhere, such as in schools, sporting clubs, suburban streets, almost everywhere we find bullies. They are cowards and will only come out in packs.
Another form of bullying is amongst adults, which finds its way into offices, the army, parliament and many places where men and women work together. This form of bullying is so rife these days and we hear about it in the daily news. l feel that in these cases, we must get away from this situation early and not stay where you are vulnerable, as long as we believe in ourselves, OR ACT in such a way, that the problem is dealt with properly and early.
In the early fifties, l was working in an office and was hassled all the time by one of the senior members of the company. He somehow did not like me at all. One day it got too much for me and l entered this guy’s office at 9 o’clock in the morning and told him l was leaving. He said: “When?” I said now”. “You cannot do that, he replied.” My response was to pick up my briefcase and walk out. He came after me and started to plead with me to stay, but my mind was made up. I drove out of the premises and felt BEAUTIFUL.
Now, this is what I am talking about; DON’T HANG AROUND IF YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE. This guy kept talking to me and said things like: “…what do l do with your wages……and please reconsider…..stuff like that, but as my mind was made up, l kept driving slowly out of the gate.
I felt GREAT and had a few weeks off work and found something much more wholesome, stimulating and educational.
“Life is meant to be easy”, remember that.
If you are not happy in your work, or anything else, CHANGE and believe and know that something else is waiting for you. That is how it works!
This story comes on top of a few others l have been presented with lately. Even my own problem, I am suffering from at present, after an unfortunate incident 15 months ago, is beatable and l know it.
Meanwhile, I feel awful some days and l feel down and out. The next day there is an improvement and that is so pleasing. There are some horrible days when l think that l should go to the doctors and take medication, something l have NEVER done. That would be giving in to an idea l have always maintained. I know that my God is leading me in the right direction and is bringing in those ‘helpers’ who can support me. Killing pain is not everything. Emotional support can be so strong and be a massive part of healing.
l have heard all the arguments before, the ones ‘for and against’ taking pain killers and other drugs, but l have a policy of NOT poisoning my system with artificial drugs. Once drugged, one loses all sight of the actual problem, which still exists.
Last week, l was introduced to an Osteopath, whom l believed l was going to meet. l made an appointment and had a treatment. He was just the man l had been looking for. He speaks ‘my language’ and we got on very well. l am so much more positive AGAIN. A little step forward each day is what is happening.
All my life, l refused to give in, after a ‘fall’ and got up and started a new tack/direction, if that is what was needed and that is why l am still here today. A ‘life-changer’ sometimes needs to be a real ‘push-and-shove’ job, before we react. We learn from them and they make us stronger; they open up our thinking and make us wiser. I believe in myself AND the reason why l am here. I know that God created me and gave me the brains and the faith in life, to fulfil my duty as a human being and be part of society and the balance of nature.
I am happy, having lived all these years, being a servant to society, particularly during my 48 years working as an Osteopath. treating people’s ills and make their lives easier. I also hope that at that time, l installed into them the belief that we must get up after a ‘fall’.
I have always tried to keep a smile on my face and allowed people to communicate with me on a friendly level. Dealing with some people can be very difficult at times, because they ‘are always right’ and whatever happens, you will not win an argument. They are angry by nature, so l learned to keep the peace and allowed them to walk away, thinking they are the ‘Victors’. It felt cowardly at times, but as the saying goes: “I am a lover, not a fighter.” I enjoy the peace, especially these days, of partial deafness. It sometimes is a real God-sent, to be quiet and silent.
Life is not always easy. You know that as well as l do. There are very few people in this world, who have never been down, but some give-in and stay down. We have all seen the amazing feats of some athletes in the Paralympics, who had horrific accidents, but did not let that stand in their way to rebuild through sheer determination and perform to their utmost and WIN! This example puts some of us to shame at times.
It is all a matter of wanting to be well and being able to go on.
There are times during my present predicament, when l am very low, so low, that my mind starts to wonder and I too start to think of asking for help around the house, BUT if l do, l have lost control. Some of the work in my unit, like mopping the floors, l cannot do on certain days, but on other days it is alright to do the exercise of working those lazy muscles. Then I feel proud to have done this job and can sit down and feel a positive accomplishment has come my way.
I have been introduced to people lately, who also believe in themselves and are on the right path for success. I am so happy to be part of their lives.
Go, my friends and move on faithfully to your own set target and believe in yourself and know that the result will be positive, even if there is an odd hiccup along the way. GET UP, HAVE A BREATHER and go again.
‘FAITH CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS’.
Much love, as always, Shanti
