Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above,
Don't fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
Don't fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don't fence me in
Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
'Till I see the mountains rise.
Ba boo ba ba boo.(Andrew's sisters)
I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon 'till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in.
No.
Poppa, don't you fence me in

Hi everyone. I just love this old song by Bing Crosby and we should sing it every night around the campfire as we travel this country of ours. All you guys in caravans or tents, who appreciate being free and  away from the pressures of daily life....LET'S HEAR IT LOUD AND CLEAR and make it our nomads THEME SONG.
I would love to hear from you. Travel well and safe, Shanti

DIATOMATIOUS EARTH

Hello everyone.
During my years on the farms, our first priority was always to remember Mother Nature. We wanted to use her gifts as efficiently as possible, as in the use of water for instance. We found ways of using water twice at times, before it would finally go back into the ground and water plants etc.
The second consideration was even more important and that is the way we would deal with waste. All our kitchen waste, toilet, bathroom and also any packaging that happen to come into the house when shopping (coop buying), would be dealt with properly.
In those days, there was not much choice, compared to what is available today in waste management AT HOME. Today we can have very efficient septic systems, toilet units, which digest all that and make Methane gas; your kitchen scraps will also be digested in these units. They are called: Methane gas digesters, which deal with your kitchen waste as well as the waste from the toilet. The beauty here is, that you can make enough methane gas, to cook your meals for free. A two-person unit will produce enough gas to cook for 3 hours. That is so good!
If you are in the process of building a new house, especially on acreage, you should consider the following systems as well:
Solar hot water, solar power and battery storage, pool heat pumps, solar pool heating, sky lights, window tinting, heat banks and more. All these units will save you money in the end and help Mother Earth battle against global warming.
IT IS VERY SERIOUS INDEED! MORE SERIOUS THAN WHAT WE ARE TOLD.
Another product I wish to mention, something that is so amazing and may be used in various ways and that is DIATOMATIOUS EARTH.
D.E. is a powder, ground from fossilized remains of tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms. They are composed mainly of silica. D.E. can be used to kill all sorts of pests, like flies, fleas, bed bugs, lice, internal parasites etc. I used it myself on the farm, to rub into the fur of my goats and also dust the chicken’s feathers, to stop lice etc. I used to mix some of it in their feed, to strop weevils and for internal parasite control. We used it on the window sills, to stop the flies.
AS we had a buying coop. and often bought bulk buckwheat, triticale, spelt, rice and other grains, we used to store them in cream cans, bought from dairy farmers. We used to mix handfuls (*) of D.E. thoroughly with the various grains, to stop weevils. It worked a treat. When we used the grains and ground them, we would also get the benefit from consuming some D.E., protecting us from internal parasites.
PS. The silica in D.E., also helps calcium to be absorbed in the body.
How it works? D.E. is a very fine and dry white powder (like talcum powder) and when a creature comes in contact with it, it dries them out.
(*) Since D.E. is so dry, use gloves when you handle this product, especially if you have a dry skin. Also use a dust mask, so you do not breathe it in, while dusting D.E. on your animals and mixing it with the grains.
Our goats, chickens and we ourselves did not use any chemical parasite drenches to combat these.
I personally suggest that you check into the use of “FOOD GRADE DIATOMATIOUS EARTH”, as it is a wonderful product.
